Journal 2: Why It’s So Hard to Dream in the Philippines as an OFW

Like many Filipinos, I realized early on that it’s expensive to dream in the Philippines. I knew that if I stayed, I would just be stuck in a cycle of struggling because my family wasn’t wealthy. So I took a leap of faith. But I thought the good life would start the moment I landed in another country.

My first year in #Singapore taught me a very harsh lesson: your first year abroad isn’t a success story. It’s pure survival.

In this second episode of my OFW journal, I talk about the things nobody prepares you for. “Is all of this worth it? Is this the end game?”

After 15+ years as an Overseas Filipino Worker, I can say that leaving the #Philippines is the decision that changed my life. But the cost of that decision in the beginning was incredibly heavy.
