Misconceptions about being an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW)

As an OFW, you are not allowed to get tired. They say, “You’re lucky you’re already abroad.” Or, “Your salary is so big, why are you still complaining? Why can’t you just be thankful?”

I’ve heard those lines so many times. Sometimes you get used to it. But even if you’ve been abroad for years, there are days when it’s still frustrating and exhausting to hear them.

Grounded in more than 15 years of living and working abroad, I’ve learned that this journey is never a straight line up. There are years when you are motivated, but there are also years when you are just truly in survival mode. In this episode, we talk about the common misconceptions about OFWs. From the false assumption that life is easy here just because the system is better, to the pressure of always having to be strong for everyone.
