Journal 1: I never dreamed of becoming an OFW

I never dreamed of becoming an “Overseas Filipino Worker” or “OFW” for short.

Like many #Filipinos, I didn’t grow up dreaming of working abroad. But at some point, I had to ask myself: If I stay in the Philippines… what will I really get out of it?

In my first journal, I share a little bit of the story behind my decision to leave the #Philippines. It wasn’t just “for the money,” but the fear, doubt, pressure, and opportunities that pushed me to take a leap of faith.

After 15+ years as an Overseas Filipino Worker in Singapore, I’ve learned that being an OFW is not always a success story. Sometimes, it’s survival. Sometimes, it’s regret. Sometimes, it’s growth. Watch out for the next jourmal where I’ll talk about my first few months as an OFW. Culture shock, homesickness, and the reality nobody prepares you for.
