A short photo documentary about Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in Singapore who sends “balikbayan” (repatriate) boxes to their families in the Philippines. “Balikbayan” boxes are packages sent containing items like canned goods, used/new clothes, confectioneries, electronics etc as a gift to loved-ones and family. The balikbayan box is a modern manifestation of the general Philippine practice of “pasalubong”, where travelers within or outside the country are culturally expected to bring home gifts to family, friends and colleagues. The balikbayan box provides connections between family within the Philippines and those who are abroad, and
provide goods for the family within the Philippines.
All photos are pictures are shot on film.
